Music Subject Guide

Off campus? Log in using your Principia username and password, just like you are logging into your Principia email.

When conducting music research, search using some of these elements:

  • Composer
  • Nationality of the Composer
  • Title
  • Genre
  • Musical Period
  • Geographic Information
  • Numbers associated with the work
  • Instrumentation
  • Key Signature or voice type/range

Other things to consider:

  • Combine the above elements with the appropriate logic operator (AND, OR, NOT)
  • Are there multiple ways to describe a piece? composer? time period?

If you still aren't sure, ask a librarian.
