Reading Nature - GEN 101 - Snow & Lovseth

Tertiary Sources: Background Resources

Tertiary sources give the reader a broad overview of a subject and discuss related subtopics, trends, or issues. This makes these sources invaluable in helping choose an appropriate topic for a research paper. Typically, tertiary sources such as encyclopedias are not cited within a research paper; instead, they are used to build background knowledge or to narrow down a broad subject.

For this assignment, you'll be exploring tertiary sources that support your research of the country of your heritage and its relationship to nature. I've included a few sample encyclopedias from our library's catalog, but you will need to do some searching as well to find just the right sources for your needs. Be sure to check out the "Searching Techniques" tab to make your search faster and more efficient!
