Research Guide Overview

Begin by searching Statista for relevant statistics for your industry. Also search for individual companies within the industry.

Use LexisNexis for a company profile and potentially an industry profile.

Once you have a good list of the top companies in your industry, search for the annual reports (10-K) for those companies. Skim through items 1-9. Pay particular attention to Items 1, 3, 6, and 7. If you are researching a mining company, see Items 2 and 4. See the SEC's "How to Read a 10-K".

Use Business Source Elite for an investor analyst's report on relevant companies, and search for articles on individual companies and industry trends.

Use ABI/Inform for articles from business/marketing publications and trade publications relevant to your industry. Also use ABI/Inform for Wall Street Journal articles on your company/industry.

Use government websites for additional industry statistics and macro-environment statistics
