Research Strategy -- Music on African Country

 Searching for information on your musical idiom in another culture:

1. Search Oxford Music Online for your topic

  • Read the article for an overview of your topic
  • Note significant keywords to describe your topic
  • Follow through with "see" references

2. Search PrinCat or I-Share to find relevant books on your topic

  • Browse the book's table of contents and/or index to find chapters about your topic
  • As you read these sections, take notes on the keywords, concepts, and spelling variations
  • Use the language facet on the right side of the screen to narrow results by language

3. Search JSTOR to find relevant articles on your topic

  • Create search statements using keywords, concepts, and spelling variations
